Azerbaijan Attacks Nagorno Karabakh Killing Four Armenian Servicemen
Deliberate Cease-fire Violation Mars U.S. Peace Talks in Washington
On June 28, at 1:30am, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces launched artillery fire and deployed UAVs, targeting Armenian positions in Martuni and Martakert, resulting in the deaths of four Armenian servicemen.
Azerbaijani Forces Enter Armenian Territory and Attempt to Place Flag
After a violent escalation, Azerbaijani border personnel attempted to cross the Hakari Bridge in the Lachin corridor to place a flag on Armenian territory in the presence of the Russian peacekeeping contingent commander.
The Armenians successfully stopped their advance. In response, Baku banned humanitarian transportation through the Lachin Corridor.
During the week, the Azerbaijani armed forces attacked Armenian positions over 10 times near the village of Tegh, in the Kapan region, near the village of Yeraskh, Verin Shorzha, Sotk, Nerkin Hand and Srashen.

In response, Nathalie Loiseau, Chair of the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Security and Defense, criticized the Azerbaijani diplomat’s behavior and reaffirmed support for the people of Nagorno-Karabakh.
U.S.-Affiliated Company Raises Armenian and American Flags in Yeraskh Construction Site Targeted by Azerbaijani Gunfire
Last week, Azerbaijani forces shot and wounded two Indian construction workers at the construction site of a US-funded metallurgy plant in Yeraskh, Armenia. The construction site has since been targeted again by the Azerbaijani forces.
No Humanitarian Aid to Karabakh: Azerbaijan Tightens Blockade of the Region
In the past week, Azerbaijan has violated the ceasefire over 7 times, including instances of opening fire on civilian population, an attack on a residential home in the village of Chankatakh.
Since June 15 the humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh has become even more aggravated. Baku stopped the movement through the corridor of humanitarian convoys organized by the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Karabakh and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
“A Man-Made Crisis Purposefully Created by the Aliyev Regime,” Members of Congress and Witnesses Urge Support for the People of Nagorno-Karabakh
On June 21, the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission of the U.S. Congress has held a hearing on Safeguarding the People of Nagorno Karabakh.
In his opening statement, Commission co-chair, Congressman Chris Smith said: “Azerbaijan has repeatedly broken commitments to permit access to Nagorno- Karabakh…Pressure is ramping up vastly on Armenia to give way to Azerbaijan and its partner, Turkey.”
All four witnesses agreed that Azerbaijan should be sanctioned for committing ongoing human rights violations and atrocities against Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.
The Consequences of the 6-Month Blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh
The Ombudsman of Nagorno Karabakh published an extraordinary report on the consequences of the blockade and included personal stories of people in it:
“I need insulin injections several times a day…I have to do it myself…And I physically cannot stand these lines for food, as I have a disability. Lately I’ve been feeling exhausted. I feel like I’m slowly fading away. I can’t stand on my feet for long and want to sleep all the time. Sometimes I feel like I can die alone in my apartment without anyone noticing.”
Azerbaijan’s Attack on American Company Should End Sanctions Waiver
Dr. Michael Rubin says: “Anything less would be an affront to Congress and will suggest President Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken are uninterested in defending American interests, American lives, or abiding by American law.”
