Global ARM is a U.S. nonprofit organization with a mission to build a stronger, more secure future for Armenia and the Armenian people. Global ARM will engage with and educate government officials and world leaders on the importance of promoting the security, economic and diplomatic advancement of Armenia—combating hate and extremism, elevating Armenia’s place in the world and safeguarding the rights and freedoms of its people.

Tim Jemal

President

Timothy “Tim” Jemal has over 30 years of experience working on strengthening democracy and freedom in central and eastern Europe. Tim is an entrepreneur and experienced CEO of multiple U.S. nonprofit organizations. Tim is a strong advocate for providing greater cooperation between the U.S. and Armenia. He has organized and led five (5) U.S. Congressional delegations to Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh). He was worked on a bipartisan basis to secure substantial U.S. assistance to Armenia to promote democracy building, economic development and growth of the American University of Armenia (AUA). Tim served as an adjunct faculty at the American University of Armenia (AUA). He was a founding Board member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Armenia. Tim previously served as Chairman of the Central and East European Coalition (CEEC). CEEC was one of the first organizations to support NATO expansion to Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. In November 2012, Tim was elected as a Trustee of the South Orange County Community College District. He currently serves as President of the Board of Trustees for the South Orange County Community College District which serves more than 50,000 students per year, employs over 2,500 faculty and staff, and has a budget of nearly $1 billion.

Greg Z. Kahwajian

Treasurer

Greg has managed his own government relations and public affairs consulting firm since 1991, providing government relations and political advice to a wide range of private companies engaged in education, real estate, healthcare, and construction sectors. He previously worked for ten years in various capacities in California Governor George Deukmejian’s campaigns and two terms as Governor, including Executive Director of the Inaugural Committees in 1983 and 1987 and as Special Assistant to the Governor. In 1996, he served as California Executive Director of Senator Bob Dole’s campaign for President. Greg served as Los Angeles County Civil Commissioner for 21 years from 1998 thru 2019 and as its President for 11 of those years. The Commission is the only County Charter mandated independent Commission and serves as the quasi-judicial appellate body for classified employees’ personnel matters. He also previously served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Armenian General Benevolent Union AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian School and as Vice President of The Armenia Fund, USA from 1996 to 1999.

Dr. Areg Danagoulian

Dr. Danagoulian is an Associate Professor of Nuclear Science and Engineering at MIT. He did his PhD research in Experimental Nuclear Physics at the University of Illinois. After his PhD, Dr. Danagoulian worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a postdoctoral researcher. While working in industry, Dr. Danagoulian developed the Prompt Neutron from Photofission technique, which allows for the rapid detection of shielded fissionable materials in commercial cargo traffic. His current research focuses on nuclear physics applications in nuclear security, nonproliferation, technologies for treaty verification, nuclear safeguards and cargo security. His awards and honors include being elected as the 2019 Arms Control Association Person of the Year, as well as being the recipient of the 2019 American Nuclear Society’s Radiation Science and Technology Award.


Dr. Elisa von Joeden-Forgey

Dr. von Joeden-Forgey is Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Lemkin Institute. She is the Endowed Chair in Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Keene State College, Keene, NH, USA. Dr. von Joeden-Forgey is an expert in genocide, genocide prevention, the Holocaust, sexualized violence, colonialism, race and war. She holds a BA in History, Columbia University, New York City; MA, PhD in History, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.

 


Yeghig Keshishian

Yeghig is a communications and government relations professional with over 15 years of experience in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. Throughout his career, he’s led political and grasstops campaign—working with diverse stakeholders to increase brand awareness, citizen engagement, and to achieve tangible results. For his past community work, Yeghig was awarded a letter of commendation from the Joint Forces Training Base; more recently, he was selected to participate as a member of Coro’s Inaugural Leadership Cohort that focused on identifying policy solutions to increase access to quality housing across Southern California.

 


Dr. Nerses Kopalyan

Dr. Nerses Kopalyan is an Associate Professor-in-Residence of Political Science at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, with specializations in international security, geopolitics, political theory, and philosophy of science. He has conducted extensive research on polarity, superpower relations, and security studies, and is the author of numerous books and articles. Dr. Kopalyan has conducted extensive field work in Armenia on the country’s security architecture and its democratization process.

Richard D. Mushegain, Esq.

Richard is an attorney, entrepreneur and business owner. He has served in multiple leadership capacities for Saint Gregory Armenian Church in Pasadena and the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America. He served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve from 1966-1971. Richard served multiple terms as a Board Member of the Armenian Assembly of America.

 


Mihran Toumajan

Mihran’s nearly three decades-long background in government relations spans the nonprofit and think tank sectors. He currently serves as Government Relations Manager for NAIOP SoCal, a Southern California-based nonprofit organization that represents the commercial real estate industry. Having served as Western Region Director of the Armenian Assembly of America for seven years, Mihran has experience advocating on priority Armenian issues in Washington, D.C. and state capitals across the western U.S. Mihran has also worked as a research assistant at foreign policy-focused think tanks, including at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars’ Kennan Institute.

 

The Global ARM Foundation is the charitable organization affiliated with Global ARM. The Foundation’s activities include: supporting education, information, and research about Armenia and the Caucasus region; educating and raising the consciousness of U.S. government officials, world leaders, media, and businesses to promote the economic security and diplomatic advancement of Armenia to elevate its standing in the world; providing resources and training to combat hate and extremism and to safeguard the rights and freedoms of Armenians; and organizing educational seminars for members of Congress, scholars, and other thought leaders to help them better understand the importance of the Caucasus region through first-hand experiences, briefings by experts on Caucasus Affairs, and meetings with officials from the Armenian government, non-governmental organizations, opposition leaders, businesses, and academia.
